The idea
Most sports coverage stops at the highlight reel — the win, the trophy, the moment everyone already saw. Level Up Athlete starts earlier than that. It's a fictional magazine built around the mindset behind elite performance: the mornings nobody films, the reps that don't make the recap.
The design
That idea shapes every page. Black-and-white photography keeps things gritty and honest, letting the athletes' expressions and movement do the emotional work instead of relying on color to sell it. A single electric green accent cuts through when it matters, guiding the eye rather than decorating the page. Typography follows the same logic — oversized, angled, sometimes breaking the grid entirely, so each spread has momentum before you even start reading. Content ranges from in-depth athlete profiles and MVP interviews to practical breakdowns like the "Top 10 Workouts" spread, keeping the magazine aspirational without losing anything useful.
The takeaway
Strip it all back and one belief holds the whole thing together: talent gets you noticed. Discipline and consistency are what make you a champion.
